Tier 3 Water Budget Pilot Project

AquaResource is conducting a Tier 3 Water Budget Pilot Project that is examining the municipal water supplies within the Town of Orangeville. The Tier 3 Water Budget Study involves integrating a surface water model with a detailed groundwater model to examine the current and future sustainability of municipal water supplies for the Town.  The groundwater model is being used to examine the impact of land use changes, increased groundwater extraction and various other scenarios on the groundwater and surface water systems. The Town of Orangeville is entirely reliant on groundwater for their potable water supplies, and the Town is facing urban development pressure, and contains a unique and complicated geologic environment that sustains coldwater fisheries and wetland communities.

AquaResource is working with the Town of Orangeville, Credit Valley Conservation, and the Ministry of Natural Resources in integrating the Tier 3 Water Quantity Risk Assessment framework to identify potential mitigation strategies.
